The Mac Classic Theremin
This Theremin was created using an old Mac Classic that I had lying around waiting for me to make a fish tank out of it. I thought it would look better as a Theremin and I was right. The electronics are from the Big Briar Etherwave kit. This was a relatively easy one to make, though there were a few foibles along the way. There was a conductive coating inside the Mac that was causing the antennas to 'short' and preventing it from making any sound. After scraping away the coating from around the antennas, I was able to make it all work. Some extensions of the original wiring to the harness had to be made as well, as the original wiring (meant for the housing that came with the kit) was too short. After getting it all together and testing it, the final problem became apparent - the Mac case isn't as wide as the original housing and was causing interference between the two antennas. This was remedied by adjusting the antennas 'control' zone. It plays fine, but has a much more compressed range than it normally should. I sell most of my custom Theremins - please email me if you would like a quote or want one built from your own design... |
