UPDATE! 10.20.04
I will no longer be doing turntable repairs as my other projects have left me with too little time. I will, however, be putting together a book on all my mods and how to repair your turntables yourself. Check back in a few months for more info.
PLEASE NOTE:
I DO NOT do any warranty repairs - for that, you'll need to go to a certified Technics warranty repair station, which you'll soon find out is kind of a hassle because Technics is not the fastest company in the world for authorizing repairs and, since the repair station makes almost nothing for doing the repair, they probably consider it a pretty low priority. It's not their fault - they have to make a buck somewhere and the paying customers tend to go to the front of the line.
All services include onsite repair or pickup/dropoff (SF Bay Area, including San Jose) - I do not maintain a separate repair station to keep costs low! If you are shipping your turntables to me, PLEASE try to pack them in the original box. At the very least make sure to pack them securely, including locking down the tonearm and removing the platter for separate packing. Be sure to get insurance for the full value. Turnaround time is usuallly 2-3 days, though same day service is available for a small additional fee.
I use only QUALITY components - either Technics brand parts or, in cases where they use inferior components (such as the RCA audio cables..), well respected brand names.
PLEASE NOTE! Several of the mods included here will VOID your warranty - if your turntable is still within it's warranty period, you need to be aware of this, so there's no confusion on the matter.
Please call for a quote on any standard repair. ALL repairs, even the most minor ones, include a basic check-up and cleaning at no extra charge. All repairs are guaranteed for 90 days.
Along with most standard repairs, I offer these services and modifications (several more are in the works - check back often!):
1. When fixing the standard ON/OFF switch problem (where the ON/OFF switch spins and doesn't actually turn the turntable on or off anymore...), I provide a permanent fix - you will NEVER have that annoying problem again.
2. Pitch control range adjustment.
3. Brake adjustment - make it stop on a dime or take it's time for that smooth 'braking' effect.
4. Vinyl Touch reverse turntable mod (with or without Blue LEDs!), which will allow you to play your turntable in reverse and still use the pitch control. For those on a serious budget, check back for my 'Play your rekkids backwards without spending a dime' article coming soon...
5. Any number of output mods, including line level or digital outputs (digital outs currently unavailable - I need a new source for the a/d convertor) - all housed in a small box that attaches to the underside of the turntable - the photo below for the RCA mod shows it pretty well.
6. Pitch fader mods - remove the center 'click' and/or turn your pitch slider into a continuous speed control (removing the quartz lock at the center).
7. DJ Focus Straight Tonearm now available! Always wanted a straight tonearm for your 1200? Now it's here - designed by one of the best DJ's in the biz!
8. Replace your cables with a box, so that you can use any set of RCA cables and a ground wire and not have to worry about cables going bad or having them dangling from the table all the time. I have good quality cables to go with that as well. Connector box ---------------------------->
